Creating Healthy Communities (CHC) Program Provides School Garden to Paint Valley Local Schools

Ross County Health District Creating Healthy Communities (CHC) Program Coordinator Jordan George organized the planting of a school garden at Paint Valley Local Schools with 4th and 5th graders.🌱

Debra Calvin of Ohio State – Ross County Extension partnered with this CHC strategy for gardening and healthful eating education support. Jordan and Debra completed the first round of engagement with students for an introduction to gardening and to make plans for the school garden. The CHC program funded supplies to complete the project.

Six raised beds were planted in total and plans for expansion are already underway with ideas brainstormed by students.

CHC is committed to preventing and reducing chronic disease statewide. Through cross-sector collaboration, CHC activates communities to improve access to and affordability of healthful food, increase opportunities for physical activity, and assure tobacco-free living where Ohioans live, work, and play. By implementing sustainable evidence-based strategies, CHC works to create a culture of health.
